FAQs

General Information

Is Ridgeville part of Evanston’s Parks and Recreation Department?

No. Ridgeville is a separate governmental agency based exclusively in south Evanston. In 1939, residents voted to set aside a portion of their property taxes for a separate, local park district that would meet their need for accessible green space and cultural opportunities.

What are park hours?

All Ridgeville parks are open daily from 9am to 9pm.

What are office hours at the Community House?

Official office hours are 9am–5pm, weekdays. It’s likely that you’ll find staff in the building as early as 7am and as late as 6pm during the week.

When and where do Ridgeville Park District brochures get distributed?

Ridgeville Park District distributes bi-annual program brochures, a Fall/Winter brochure in August and a Spring/Summer brochure in February. These brochures are mailed to every address within our district. They can also be picked up at the Community House at Ridgeville Park.

What is the schedule for basketball hoops?

Basketball rims stay up year-round, unless they come down for a special event. Notice of event will be posted with 24 hours notice if the rims must come down to accommodate. Park hours are 9am-9pm.

Can I barbecue in a Ridgeville Park?

The Board has adopted a new policy to allow grilling in Ridgeville parks during park hours from May 1 thru Sep 30. Designated barbecue areas are identified in Leider, Kamen West, Kamen East, Ridgeville and Elks parks. Coals and trash should be disposed of properly, and alcohol is prohibited by City and Ridgeville ordinances.

**For groups of more than 15 people a reservation is required and may be obtained from the Ridgeville office. To avoid conflicts with programs and events, we ask that you let the district know if you are a party of fewer than 15.

How do I rent indoor space for a gathering at Ridgeville Park or Kamen Park?

The main studio and kitchen can be rented at the Ridgeville Community House for $100/hour. The field house at Kamen East Park can be rented for $90/hour. If you are interested in renting indoor space for your next party, please fill out a request form and the office will be in touch with you soon after to confirm.
